Three killed in Iran oil well fire

TEHRAN: Three people were killed and another 12 were hurt when an oil well caught fire in western Iran on Saturday, that state television website reported.
The blaze broke out at around 6:35 am (2:05 GMT) when a well in the town of Naftshahr in western Kermanshah province caught fire after gas leaked from drilling machinery, a local official said.
“Three people have been killed and 12 others injured,” Bahram Teymouri was quoted as saying on the website, adding that six were in critical condition. He said the fire “was caused by the leakage of gas and has still not been extinguished.” Iran is OPEC”s second largest oil exporter.

PM links global peace to Pak situation

SWAT: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the government promulgated Shariat in Swat in accordance with the desires of Swat people; but, the extremists disrupted the peace in the area, Geo News reported Saturday.
Addressing the local veterans at a ceremony of distribution of cheques among Swat operation-affected people, he said the tourists from all around the world used to visit Swat, when it was a peaceful place.
He said the extremists blew up many schools for girls in Swat and Malakand, adding the extremists wanted to destabilize the country and the government.
He added Pakistan was not the estate and property of anyone.
‘Terrorists thought they would banish the national flag from the Malakand; but, they are wrong, we will hoist it in the area,’ the PM maintained, adding Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto said in his last speech that she will raise the national flag in Malakand and Swat.
‘We want to build a Malakand where no terrorism occurs,’ he said adding many people had reservations over Malakand operation; but, the government headed in the right direction with good intention.
The PM Gilani vowed military operation where the government is challenged. He also announced to build a university in Swat.
Malakand Tunnel will be started soon, he informed.
The peace in the entire world is inextricably intertwined with peace in Swat and Pakistan, the PM Gilani adding the followers of Islam could not be terrorists.

PCB lifts ban on Shoaib Malik

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board arbitrator has lifted a one-year ban on former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, and halved the fine to Rs 1million.
Appellate tribunal headed by Justice (rtd) Irfan Qadir heard the appeals of Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik against ban in National Cricket Academy here today.
After the hearing, Shoaib’s lawyer told the media that PCB has abolished the ban and fine imposed on Shoaib Malik and now he is eligible to represent the country.
