Some students in Pakistan get millions of funds by government for studying in America or Europe but some are dying because of the apathy of authorities toward their financial problems in carrying out their education. This is just what happened to a poor student of Geology Department, University of Peshawar who tried to kill himself yesterday by jumping down from the roof of his hostel.

The student is named Yousaf Habib and he is in third year BS Geology at the Geology Department, University of Peshawar. His fellow students say that Habib is from a poor family of Nowshera. His father is not alive now and his brother is working on a petrol station. He was struggling to get a university degree to be able to carry the burden of his family. But he was not able to pay fees and hostel charges. So he requested the department head for remitting his fee. But his request was rejected with apathy and he was insulted by the chairman.

Yousaf became very disappointed and mentally was very depressed. On Thursday afternoon, he went to the roof of New Hostel in Peshawar University and jumped down to the ground. He was seriously injured and became unconscious. He was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital for emergency treatment. Now he is in coma and between life and death.

It s very sad fact that university authorities with millions and millions of funds are not helping the poor students. But the favored students of professors get millions of rupees for studying in foreign countries. Who will change this cruel system and how many poor young men will die due to the neglect of university administration?
