Officials of the lahore zoo confirmed today that two white tiger cubs died last month were the victims of COVID-19. The cubs died at januray 30th, the officials initially believed that the cubs were infected with a common virus in Pakistan namely feline penleokopenia which usually target cats.
Autopsy revealed that the lungs were badly damaged due to COVID-19. It is being said that they may have contracted this virus from the zoo keepers as six of them were tested and all came positive including the person who mainly handled the cubs.
Pakistani zoos are always in the limelight because of many deaths of vital animals and poor hygenic conditions.
Last year four giraffes died in Peshawar zoo and two lions died in capitol territory due to suffocation which happened due to the negligence of workers.
The government of Pakistan must take notice of this before more casualities happen. It is our utmost responsibility to take care of the living species as much as we can especially the officials, because these animals are the cause of bread and butter for them
